With the Spring Festival approaching, Wenchuan, once has suffered the earthquake and received the warmth of the infinite love, has resumed its former vitality.
Early in 2009, when we first arrived in Wenchuan, we were overwhelmed by its devastated state. Later, ECCOM team participated in Cisco China's reconstruction projects and from several times of on-site investigation at the beginning to the permanent resident and then to the project implementation. The team truly felt the people's power. What's encouraging is that ECCOM team's expertise, cohesiveness and dedication embody everywhere the moment it's most difficult and critical.
Wenchuan is located in the highlands where winters are very cold. Although life and medical facilities in most affected areas has improved under the aided reconstruction of Guangdong Province, the conditions are still very tough. While involved in Cisco reconstruction projects, we found that the majority of town hospitals in Wenchuan virtually have no heating facilities and even the delivery room as well. As the night temperature in winter sometimes can be as low as minus ten degrees, mothers have to go home immediately after giving birth to a child so as to resist the coldness, which leaves hidden dangers to the recovery of puerpera and the health of the newborn.
To help those re-pregnant mothers who lost their children in the earthquake better nurture the next generation, and initiated by Cisco medical team, all the ECCOM participants in the aided reconstruction projects have actively donated the heating facilities to the maternity operating room of town hospitals known as "To Send Love to Wenchuan Mothers". Since the beginning of the year, we have donated 110 electric heaters to delivery rooms of Wenchuan town hospitals, which reflected the high sense of social responsibility of ECCOM's employees.
Walking in the streets of Wenchuan County, reconstruction is necessary everywhere and reconstruction programs are moving ahead with difficulties. Looking back the progress and look forward to the future, ECCOM employees are all full of hope. God bless Wenchuan!
